My cat likes to get up in my lap for me to pet him. That’s the only place he likes to be pet. And when he wants to be pet, he is very insistent. He will come up to me while I am on my computer, put his paws on my leg and ‘Meow’s until I adjust my position so he can climb in my lap to be pet.
Sometimes I am busy, or just not thinking, or all caught up in my own problems, and I don’t want a cat in my lap. So I push him down. Does this deter him? No. My cat is very zen. Every time something happens is like the first time it ever happened. So my cat puts his paws on my leg and ‘Meow’s until I adjust my position so he can climb in my lap and be pet.
Sometimes, I am really busy, or upset, and after pushing him down a few times, I push him a little harder and may even yell. Sure, I am human, and I do stupid things like yell at my cat. When I do that, he looks a little cross and then walks away, usually to lie down nearby.
But sometimes, I am working on my computer and I suddenly have the urge to pet my cat. Sometimes it is only a few minutes after I just yelled at him. So I adjust my position so he can lie in my lap to be pet, call his name, and pat my chest.
Without fail, my cat runs up to me and jumps in my lap. He lies down and I pet him. In an instant, I am forgiven, and my cat is purring happily in my lap. He loves me, and I love him.
