The great thing about the Basic Recipe, is you can use it almost anywhere to tap away a fear, anxiety, or some other very immediate concern. I have used it many times to help relieve stress about a situation, tap away some anger that has come up, or just give me an extra bit of confidence before a meeting. However, EFT can be used for much more than that.
EFT can be used to help you deal with long term issues in a permanent manner. You can use it on any habit you want to eliminate or any new habit you want to institute. You can use it to permanently remove mental blocks keeping you from success, wellness, or even abundance.
Removing long lasting blocks does take a slightly different approach. Not only do we want to remove the block, habit, or whatever, but we also need to replace it with a more positive trait.
Step 1 – The Basic Recipe, Enhanced
We start out by identifying the issue and use the Basic Recipe. Write out your statement for the karate chop point and tap it. However, once you start tapping the other points, this is where things kind of open up. There is a lot of beliefs and anxiety built around this block. Things will come up while you are tapping – let them. Don’t hold anything back; say whatever comes to mind – no matter how negative.
You may find your thoughts going back to times in your past. Speak whatever comes to mind. Each memory will be linked in some way to the issue. Ideally, you want to go back to the very first memory you have linked to this issue. The memory may be vague, just keep tapping on the feeling and saying whatever comes to your mind.
You may find yourself tapping for 5 minutes, 20 minutes, or longer. Take a break if you need and check in. If the intensity isn’t at zero yet, then tap the karate chop point and start a new round.
If you hit a block where your intensity isn’t dropping after a significant period of tapping, you may be stuck in the wrong side of the brain. There is a simple procedure developed by Dr. Roger Callaghan that will engage both sides of the brain. You will tap the gamut point while performing a series of actions that engage both sides of the brain.
The gamut point is on the back of the hand. Place your finger between the base of the ring finger and pinkie finger. Now move your finger straight towards the wrist about 1/2 inch. This is the gamut point. Tap this point while performing these nine actions.
- Close your eyes.
- Open your eyes.
- Keep your head straight while looking down and to the right.
- Keep your head straight while looking down and to the left.
- Keep your head straight while moving your eyes in a circle. Pretend the center of a clock face is at the tip of your nose and try to “see” all the numbers.
- Repeat 5 in the opposite direction.
- Hum 2-3 seconds of any song (Happy Birthday is a popular one, I use Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star).
- Count quickly from 1 to 5.
- Hum 2-3 seconds of a song again.
Step 2 – Flip the script
Once you have dropped the intensity down to zero, you get to do the really fun part. Now we are going to follow the basic recipe; only instead of tapping on the negative, we tap on the positive. At this point, we are going to use the positive affirmation, habit, or whatever you want to replace the negative thing with. You are going to tap on it until the intensity increases to 8 or better.
Okay, so what is going on here. First I say, we tap on the negative, and now we aren’t. When we start out tapping, we are trying to break down mental blocks. We use negative language to bring the blocks out into the open so that they can be more easily targeted by the tapping.
When we tap on the positive affirmation or habit, we are imprinting it on our energy pattern instead. The vibration is positive and in alignment with our energy, so the tapping actually reinforces it.
So, why not just tap on the positive to begin with. Technically you could, BUT it would take MUCH, MUCH longer for the change to occur. Why? Because you have a very strong negative energy block in the way. You need to clear out the negative blocks before you can put in any new positive energy patterns.
This is why a lot of people will spend years reciting positive affirmations every day and not get any results. The old energy blocks are much stronger than the new positive energy patterns. You need to remove the blocks before you try to install any new patterns.
